Charles Deck ‘Charlie’ Jarrett, 91, passed away on Friday, March 11, 2016, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Charlie was a native of Green Mountain, N.C., a Peninsula resident since 1953 and a resident of Yorktown since 1961. He was a founding member of South York Baptist Church, where he served as deacon emeritus. Most recently he was a member of Faith Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a retired welder. He spent most of his career working for Newport News Shipyard and the Surry Nuclear Power Plant. Charlie was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with all his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Julia Jarrett; nine brothers and sisters; and a stepson, David Griffin. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Dorothy Jarrett; a daughter, Michelle Davis (Stan) of Atlanta, Ga.; two sons, Kenneth Jarrett (Jean) and Dennis Jarrett (Laurie), all of Yorktown; a stepdaughter, Virginia Major (Marvin) of Lanexa; and eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 18, at Amory Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 19, at Faith Baptist Church, 100 Blackburn Lane, Hampton. Burial with military honors will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to Faith Baptist Church.
