Marcus Owen Stevenson Jr., 73, of Toano, VA, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 31, 2026. He was born on July 24, 1953, in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Marcus proudly served his country as a U.S. Coast Guard electronics mate for ten years. After his service, he started Williamsburg Communications, which he built and later sold in 1993. That same year, he moved to Texas and went on to have a distinguished career in telecommunications that took him to Argentina, Arizona, California, and Illinois. He retired from Verizon Wireless in 2013 as Director of Network Communications and Engineering.
Following retirement, Marcus and his wife moved back to Williamsburg, Virginia, where he continued working as a contractor for Verizon Wireless, helping coordinate networking and communications support for multiple Super Bowls.
Marcus lived a life devoted to service. He was a private pilot who flew for Angel Flight, providing free transportation for those in need of medical care. He served as a reserve sheriff’s deputy with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office and was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. His main hobby was amateur radio, through which he supported hospitals and emergency communications efforts.
Marcus was a devoted member of Journey Christian Fellowship. He expressed his love of Christ openly and relied on his faith in all he did. That faith kept him joyful all the way to the end of his life here on earth.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marcus Owen Stevenson Sr. of Dallas, TX, and Nina Stevenson of Lubbock, TX, and his stepmother, Dottie Stevenson of Dallas, TX.
He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 36 years, Debbie Stevenson; his two children, Leah Wilson (Robbie) of New Kent, VA, and Jason Hooker (Miretta) of Stafford, VA; three grandchildren, Riley and Avery Wilson of New Kent, VA, and Caleb Hooker of Stafford, VA; his sister, Amanda Eads (Mark) of Ft. Worth, TX; and two nieces, Stacy and Amy.
A celebration of life will be held at Journey Christian Fellowship, 3020 New Kent Hwy, New Kent, VA, on September 9th at 11:00 am.
