Barbara Love Hardie Waters was born in Beckley, W.Va., to Bernie Love Hardie and Thornton Jefferson Hardie Sr., on May 18, 1932.
She died peacefully after a long illness at Dominion Senior Living on Friday, March 11, 2016.
Barbara worked as a hostess for Colonial Williamsburg Foundation and managed several hotels in Williamsburg for most of her adult career. She had a deep love for her family and friends and enjoyed doing for others. Barbara made enough yeast rolls and pound cakes to feed all of Williamsburg. She served as president of the Williamsburg Lady Lions Auxiliary and held many other positions for the Lady Lions as well.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frederick Earl ‘Buddy’ Waters; and her son-in-law, Emmitt White.
Barbara is survived by her aunt, Denise Nash; daughter, Jane Waters White; grandson, Eric White, and his companion, Nikki; granddaughter, Ann White Scaife, and husband, Chris; grandchildren, Brianna Scaife, Levi Scaife, Serenity White and Eric White; brother, T.J. Hardie, and wife, Dianne; brothers-in-law, Barry, Mickey and Dickie Waters; nephews, Jeff and Jon Hardie, and their families; as well as many cousins.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 17, at Walnut Hills Baptist Church, 1014 Jamestown Road, Williamsburg.
