NEWPORT NEWS — Robert Thompson “Rob” Collins, 62, unexpectedly passed away Thursday, Aug. 12, 2021.
Born in Danville, he graduated from Menchville High School in 1977 and the University of Richmond in 1981. Rob was a custom homebuilder with the family business, Calvin S. Collins Contractors for over 30 years. He was currently working at Richie-Curbow Contractors Inc. He served on the board of New Horizons, was a member of the Association of General Contractors and was proud of building a Habitat for Humanity Home in 2005. He was a dedicated member of Hidenwood Presbyterian Church for over 31 years, serving as an elder, deacon and worship committee chair.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Calvin S. and Romona Collins; and brother, Calvin “Sandy” Collins Jr.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years, Sheila McCarthy Collins; The best “girl dad” there ever was to Erin and Lesley Collins; brother, Chris Collins (Shannon), and their children, Carson, Michael and Sean; and numerous loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins as well as many close friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, Aug. 16, at Weymouth Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 17, at Hidenwood Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Charles Tucker officiating. Private interment will be held in Peninsula Memorial Park.
