WILLIAMSBURG — The League of Women Voters of Williamsburg Area is once again sponsoring the popular Foreign Policy Association series, Great Decisions, in 2026.
The program will run from Feb. 3 through March 24 for eight sessions, according to the League of Women Voters. Each week, registrants will have the option of joining via Zoom or in person at the Williamsburg Unitarian Universalists at 10:30 a.m.
“We are excited to present Great Decisions 2026,” said chairperson Dennis Litalien. “With a timely and stimulating array of topics chosen by the Foreign Policy Association and dynamic subject matter experts presenting each topic, we look forward to another excellent season. I’m even thinking that registering a loved one would make a great Christmas gift.”
The topics and presenters for this year’s program include:
- Feb. 3 — America and the World: Trump 2.0 Foreign Policy
Michael Butler, Former Minister-Counselor of the U. S. Foreign Service - Feb.10 — U.S.-China Relations
Eric Brown, Global Research Institute, William and Mary - Feb.17 — U.S. Engagement with Africa
Retired Ambassador Virginia E. Palmer, former Ambassador to Ghana - Feb.24 — The Future of Human Rights and International Law in a Divided World
Nancy Combs, William and Mary School of Law - March 3 — Trump Tariffs and the Future of the World Economy
Shihoko Goto, Vice President of Programs, Foreign Policy Institute - March 10 — Multilateral Institutions in a Changing World Order
Dagmar Gracyk, International Energy Agency, Paris, France (Via Zoom) - March 17 — Ruptured Alliances and the Risk of Nuclear Proliferation
Ryan Musto, Director of Forums and Research Initiatives, Global Research Institute, William and Mary - March 24 — Ukraine and the Future of European Security
Col. Larry Wilkerson, U.S. Army (Ret.), former Chief of Staff to former Secretary of State Colin Powell
“What impresses me the most about our presenters is the depth of knowledge that they bring to us,” Great Decisions co-chair Abra Smith said. “This is information that you cannot get from a brief newspaper article or one-minute clip in the evening news on TV. We get the historical background, the explanation of the politics surrounding the issue, positives and negatives of the current situation, and where we’re going in the future.”
Registration is open now on the League of Women Voters website. The cost for an individual is $75 and includes one briefing book published by the Foreign Policy Association; family/household registrations are $100. There will be scheduled times for registrants to pick up their booklets in January to allow time to read on the topics prior to the sessions, the League of Women Voters said..
“We hope you can join us for Great Decisions 2026 at our new location, the Williamsburg Unitarian Universalists on Ironbound Road or on Zoom on Tuesday mornings in February and March,” Litalien said.
