NEWPORT NEWS — God sent His angels to bring home to eternal rest our beloved Shaun Wendell Curtis, 44, Thursday, Jan. 21, 2021. His earthly journey began Feb. 17, 1976.
At an early age, Shaun accepted Christ as his Personal Savior. He was educated in the District of Columbia Public Schools, graduating from Frank W. Ballou High School in 1994. He furthered his studies at Virginia State University, Petersburg.
Shaun enjoyed driving and worked as a bus driver for the District of Columbia Public Schools, transporting special needs youth to school. Upon relocating to Virginia, he worked various jobs but was most proud of working as a bus driver at Williamsburg Area Transit Authority (WATA).
Shaun was a quiet, soft-spoken person with a hearty laugh. He was kind, considerate and compassionate. He loved being around his family and was an avid Washington football team fan. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, especially to seniors and children. He maintained friendships with his D.C. friends and kept in touch regularly.
Shaun leaves to cherish his memories, his mother, Patricia Curtis; four aunts, Jean Washington, Ethel Taylor, Rosa Curtis and Barbara Curtis; uncle, Clifford Curtis; special family friends, Elizabeth Wilson, Charlene Keller and Leola Carmichael, who had been an integral part of his life from childhood and loved him like a son; and a host of cousins.
A funeral service will be held at noon, Friday, Jan. 29, at Whiting’s Funeral Home. Due to the current health pandemic, only 50 people may be in attendance with facial coverings and social distancing required. Facebook livestreaming will be available at the beginning of the service. Mr. Curtis may be viewed from 10 a.m. to noon prior to services at the funeral home.
Share online condolences with the family at Whiting’s Funeral Home.
