Henry J. Gosha, Jr. peacefully answered his Master’s call into eternal rest on August 7, 2026. He was born on July 15, 1944, in Montgomery, Alabama to the late Mr. Henry J. Gosha, Sr. and the late Alma Cooper Gosha.
He received Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior early in life. He loved the Lord, he served the Lord, and he is now with the Lord. Henry’s home church was First Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama. He was a faithful watch-care member of St. Luke Baptist Church, until his health declined. He faithfully traveled from Newport News to West Point on Sundays to engage in praise, worship, and to receive the Word of God. He loved his Pastor, Rev. Dr. Walter Roy, Sr. and his St. Luke church family.
Affectionately called “Mr. Bubba,” he graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Montgomery, Alabama, where he was a member of the school band. After graduating high school, he was employed for ten years with the Atlanta Life Insurance Company in Montgomery, Alabama. While in Montgomery, he was very active with the Civil Rights movement. He marched alongside of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Benjamin E. Mays in the Selma to Montgomery march in 1965. He marched hand in hand and with boots on the ground even when his father voiced his concern for his safety. He knew he had to stand up for the voting rights of his people.
He relocated to Williamsburg, Virginia in 1975, where he worked for the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation at King’s Arms and Shields Tavern for thirty years before retiring on August 1, 2006. He later worked for Eastern Staten Hospital, retiring after twenty-three years of loyal and faithful service.
Henry loved his family dearly. He was a die-hard Pittsburg Steeler’s fan. He could not bear to see them lose a game. He was reminded by Royalty that someone had to lose. He also enjoyed bowling, playing softball, and volleyball. He was a loyal and faithful friend to many.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Henry, Sr. and Alma Gosha; aunt, Ruby Gosha, who was like a mother to him; uncle, Jessie Gosha; cousins, Billy Gosha (who was like a brother to him) and Willie May Gosha; lifelong friends, Lou Taylor, John Collins, and Prince and Margaret Jenkins.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories his son, Benjamin Earl Gosha, whom he named after Benjamin E. Mays; sister, Mamie Gosha Childrey (James); cousin, James Gosha whom was raised as his brother; Godson, Edward Harper (Jackie); lifelong friends, Esther Hatfield, Alex Hundley (Tracie), Tawana Robinson (George), Tiana, Royalty, Dymon, and Felecia (Jeff); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
