James Leon Daniel, 72, savored a good game of bid whist

NEWPORT NEWS — James Leon Daniel, 72, was born Dec. 25, 1947, to the late Edward and Nannie Williams Daniel. James departed earth Thursday, Nov. 26, 2020, at Coliseum Park Nursing Home, Hampton, following an extensive illness.

James, known by family and friends as “Leon,” lived in Newport News, where he retired as a maintenance tech. He enjoyed repairing broken items and reassembling unimpaired items. He will be fondly remembered for cursing tremendously, slamming the last trump card down in a good game of bid whist and his infectious smile that would light up a room.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Linda Jackson Daniel; two sons, Vincent Crowell (Pamela) of New York and Nathaniel Jackson (Dee) of Newport News; granddaughter, Victoria Crowell of New York; siblings, Lillie Johnson (Linwood) of Hampton, Lucille Whitaker and Oda Mae Greene, both of Richmond, Dorothy Jones of Weldon, North Carolina, Mary Bush (Elijah) of Alabama, Lenard Daniel (Elana) of Petersburg, Deloris Bishop (Larry) of Enfield, North Carolina, Raymond Daniel (Vivian) of Richmond, Linda Bradley of Enfield, North Carolina, Andrew Daniel (Janice) of Baltimore, Maryland, Patricia Taylor (Andrew) of Clinton, Maryland, and Eliseree Saunders of New Carrollton, Maryland; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

The family would like to thank sister Bell, who doubled as his best friend and warrior, for his physical and mental health to the very end.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private memorial service will be held. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers.
