Nathan Spencer Roberts, 28, talented soccer player and lifelong fan of the sport

Nathan Spencer Roberts, 28, of Colonial Heights, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, June 17, 2018.

He loved his family, life, sports, and grilling. Nathan’s good nature and love of people shone through all of his interactions with both friends and strangers, and we can all emulate his unconditional kindness.

He was a talented soccer player and a lifelong fan of the sport — he played for the Tri-Cities United Lightning and Richmond Kickers from 1998-2008, and later Christopher Newport University.

Nathan was a 2008 graduate of Colonial Heights High School. He continued his studies at Christopher Newport University and graduated in 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science.

Nathan was currently employed as a financial advisor with Mass Mutual. Nathan is survived by his parents, Keith and Leslie Firman Roberts; brother, Aaron Roberts and wife Amber; sister, Hannah Roberts; grandparents, Fay and Patty Firman; grandmother, Dorothy Roberts; great-grandmother, Alma Messick Behler; and niece Addison Roberts and nephew Princeton French, all of Poquoson, VA; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

A Celebration of Nathan’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 23, at Emmaus Baptist Church, Poquoson, led by the Rev. James N. Earley II and Pastor Scott Wade. Burial will be private. Claytor Rollins Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
