Reginald Gary ‘Reggie’ Strickland died peacefully at home Saturday, June 17, 2017, with his wife, El, by his side after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s.
He was born in 1937 to Preston and Viola Strickland in Spring Hope, N.C., and had been a Yorktown resident since 1974. He was a senior engineering inspector and retired from Haliburton Company in 1999.
He enjoyed vacationing in the Bahamas, playing golf, being out on his boat and listening to Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson while chewing on his Cohiba cigar. He coached Little League, was an avid NASCAR fan and loved football — never giving up on Redskins. He graduated from Hampton High School in 1956.
Reggie is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, El; three sons, Scott (Jackie), Jeff (Renee) and Chris (Cindy); two stepdaughters, Kelly (Chad) and Casey (Cricket); sister, Betty Dean (Gerald); seven grandchildren, Shannon, Ashlee, Brittany, Danielle, Bailey, Brooke and Kaelyn; and seven great-grandchildren, Bryce, Calianne, Kensley, Rilee, Kaylin, Harper and Avery. In addition to his immediate family, he leaves behind his former wife, Gloria; and his faithful companion, Sam the cat.
The family would like to thank his devoted caregivers Vicki Prevatt and Jessica Ryan for all the love and excellent care given to Reggie and his family.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 22, at Kirkwood Presbyterian Church, located on Magruder Blvd. in York County.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Reggie’s life to Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, York County Fire and Rescue or Kirkwood Presbyterian Church.
