Joseph Patrick McDonald, 64, died Sunday, April 10, 2016, at his home. He grew up in Mineola, N.Y., and was a resident of Hampton Roads since 1970. He worked for the U.S. Civil Service for the past 15 years, as a computer scientist.
He was the son of the late Arthur McDonald and Gertrude McKeon Janis. He was also preceded in death by his loving son, Michael McDonald; and his brother, Arthur McDonald.
Joe is survived by his loving wife, Cynthia Rohanna McDonald of Virginia Beach; daughters, Katherine Sutliff, and her husband, David, and Elizabeth Biddle, and her husband, Kyle, all of Virginia Beach; his sister, Gertrude Ogilvie of Springfield; brother, Stephen McDonald of Islip Terrace, N.Y.; granddaughter and the joy of his life, Charlotte Mae Sutliff; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Joe had a passion for the beach, surfing and most of all, his family. Joe will be remembered as a loving and generous husband, father and friend.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, April 15, at Star of the Sea Catholic Church. The Rev. Father Esteban DeLeon will be officiating the service. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
