Walter N. ‘Walt’ Eskildsen Jr., 69, served in the Marine Corps for 22 years

Walter N. ‘Walt’ Eskildsen Jr. passed away at the Atlantic Shore Rehabilitation Center on Thursday, April 7, 2016, at the age of 69.

Walter served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 22 years and was a civil servant to the federal government for an additional 21 years. He was an active member St. Gregory the Great Church as well as a Knight of Columbus. He had also been a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans. He was known affectionately as ‘Walt,’ ‘Honey,’ ‘Uncle Junior,’ ‘Top Ski,’ ‘Dad,’ and ‘Grandpa.’ He will be sorely missed and fondly remembered by all those whose lives he touched.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Sr. and Mabel; and nephew, Jason Eskildsen.

He is survived by his loving wife, Michaelangela ‘Michie’; his son and daughter-in-law, John and Marylou; daughter, Joy; and grandchildren, Cynthia, Hunter and Lorelei. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, William and Vernice, Marvin and Ida and Richard and Denise; and many nieces, nephews, and those once removed.

A visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 11, at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 12, at St. Gregory the Great Church, 5345 Virginia Beach Blvd., Virginia Beach. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.

The Eskildsen family would also like to extend our sincerest thanks to Dr. G. Wilkins Hubbard, Dr. Anil Patel, and Dr. George Tannous, who provided the best of care, even in the worst of times.
