Carolyn ‘Ammaw’ Burcher Brooks, 91, passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2016.
Carolyn was a native and lifelong resident of York County, having been born on the same Burcher family farm where she died.
She was a member of Providence United Methodist Church, a founding member of the York County Historical Society, a member of the Friends of the York County Historical Museum, and a former member of the Comte de Grasse Chapter, NSDAR.
Known as Ammaw to many, she was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Carolyn would often comment of ‘precious memories’ when reminiscing. She will now be a precious memory to all who knew her.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, James Russell Brooks; sisters, Neva B. Brooks and Mildred Ribble; and brothers, L. Manning Burcher and Levin Cosby ‘Bubs’ Burcher Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Karwac (Jerry); son, David R. Brooks (Blanche); grandchildren, Rebecca Lowe and Andrew Brooks; great-grandchildren, Ben and Cody Lowe and James and David Brooks, all of Yorktown; nieces, Mary Ruth Burcher Acosta (Keith) and Karen Rollins Jackson; sister-in-law, Peggy Brooks Rollins (Bobby); and many cousins and extended family members.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, at Amory Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 14, at Providence United Methodist Church with the Rev. C. Douglas Akers officiating. A reception will follow at the church. Burial will be private at Grafton Christian Church in the Burcher family plot.
