Edward “Eddie” Joseph Raymond, 90, wonderful storyteller who could light up a room with his smiles and laughter

Edward “Eddie” Joseph Raymond, a native of Cohoes, N.Y., former resident of Syracuse, N.Y. and resident of Williamsburg for the past 18 years, died Saturday, June 28, 2014, at the age of 90.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy who served during WWII and was employed as a printer for most of his life. He enjoyed horse racing, was a member of the Ancient Order of the Deep and served under Davy Jones, His Majesty’s Scribe and Neptunus Rex, Ruler of the Raging Main.

He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather and wonderful storyteller who could light up a room with his smiles and laughter.

He was preceded in death by his son, Edward Raymond, Jr.

He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Clara Raymond; daughter, Michele Donnely; grandchildren, Danielle (Travis) Morse, Christopher Szlamczynski, Jessica (Aaron) Hornstra and Peter Raymond; great-grandchildren, Alex, Aeriel and Katherine Szlamczynski and Sierra and Chase Morse; sister Eva Gilman; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at Grace Episcopal Church in Yorktown with the Rev. Connie Jones officiating. Interment will follow with U.S. Navy Honors at the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
