YORKTOWN— All ye mateys are invited to travel back to the Golden Age of Piracy as Riverwalk Landing and Historic Main Street are invaded by seafaring marauders from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, and Sunday, April 26.
The county invites everyone to enjoy live blacksmith demonstrations, sing along to sea shanties, witness a smuggler’s auction, take part in a town-wide treasure hunt, and experience cannon demonstrations. Adding that guests should be sure to head to the Yorktown Freight Shed for the History Fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. indoors and the Summer Camp Expo in the tent behind the building with a view of the York River. There will also be a balloon artist to entertain children.
Attendees can enroll their kids in Pirate School, where they will learn how to walk, talk, and act like pirates. The county also invites guests to stop by York Hall to enjoy the exciting Pirate Trial and the live Pirate Puppet Shows. The fun continues on Historic Main Street with a pirate encampment and live performances throughout the day.
Other events include a treasure hunt, which takes place over the area, and after visiting the shops, have a chance to win a special prize. Many Historic Yorktown restaurants will be open, and in the spirit of the event, Yorktown Market Days’ Pirate Invasion Market will be extended until 3 p.m. each day, featuring a variety of food truck options.
Free parking is available at the Riverwalk Landing Parking Terrace. Visitors may also park at York Hall, York-Poquoson Courthouse, County Administration Building, and other designated public parking lots. The free, ADA-accessible Yorktown Trolley runs from
10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with several convenient stops throughout town.
