YORKTOWN — A Tabb High School student will be featured next month on two large screens in New York City’s Times Square as part of an annual presentation highlighting people with Down syndrome.
Quinton “Quinn” Olivo of Yorktown was selected from more than 2,700 entries in the National Down Syndrome Society’s worldwide call for photos. His photo will be shown Sept. 12 as part of the organization’s annual Times Square Video Presentation.
The one-hour presentation features photographs of children, teens and adults with Down syndrome from all 50 states and 12 countries. The presentation will be displayed on two screens above Dos Caminos restaurant in Father Duffy Square with support from Clear Channel Outdoor.
The presentation will be livestreamed on the National Down Syndrome Society’s Facebook page from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. The National Down Syndrome Society, founded in 1979, works on policy, resources, community engagement and public perceptions related to Down syndrome.
Olivo is known at Tabb High School for his school spirit and involvement in the school’s theater program and the community, according to the National Down Syndrome Society.
He is a Special Olympics Virginia athlete with Area 22 Greater Historic Triangle, competing in basketball and golf. He also recently completed his second summer working as a camp counselor at the Jewish Peninsula.
Olivo also advocates for the rights of people with disabilities.
The Times Square presentation will kick off the New York City Buddy Walk, which will take place at the Naumburg Bandshell in Central Park. The event has been held in New York City since 1995 as part of the National Buddy Walk program.
