TOANO— Latisha’s House will host its annual BBQ & Boogie fundraiser on Saturday, July 18, bringing the community together for an evening of food, music and support for survivors of human trafficking.
The event will take place from 4 to 9 p.m. at Niceland Farms. Tickets are $75 per person, with children younger than 10 admitted free.
The evening will feature dinner from Mission BBQ and live music from The Hullabaloos, a band known for its 1960s pop, rock and British Invasion sound.
In a message shared ahead of the event, Crabill said BBQ & Boogie represents more than a night of food and entertainment.
“BBQ & Boogie isn’t simply a night of great food and live music. It’s a night where a community makes a statement,” Crabill wrote. “It says to every survivor, ‘We see you. We believe you. And you are worth fighting for.’”
Latisha’s House provides services and support for women who have experienced human trafficking and exploitation. The organization is marking 13 years of work helping survivors heal and rebuild their lives.
Crabill, who described herself as a survivor, said her own experiences shape the work she does today.
“I know that feeling because I was one of them,” Crabill wrote. “There was a time in my life when I couldn’t imagine freedom. I couldn’t imagine that one day I’d be surrounded by people who saw value in me when I couldn’t see it in myself.”
She added that the fundraiser supports the organization’s ongoing efforts to provide a place where survivors can heal and rebuild their futures.
“For 13 years, Latisha’s House has been a place where healing begins,” Crabill wrote. “A place where women rediscover their voices, reclaim their futures, and begin to believe that what happened to them does not define who they are.”
She encouraged community members to attend the event or help spread the word.
“One decision to attend may seem small to you,” Crabill wrote. “To a survivor, it says something they’ve needed to hear for a very long time: Your life matters.”
