WILLIAMSBURG — Mystery author Heather Weidner, whose novels blend Southern settings with crime and intrigue, will discuss her writing career during a talk at the Williamsburg Regional Library.

Weidner will speak from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 18, in the Stryker Center, through a partnership between Chesapeake Bay Writers and the Williamsburg Regional Library.

Weidner will talk about her books, her path to publication and the realities of sustaining a writing career, along with advice for writers at different stages.

Weidner is the author of four mystery series, including the Pearly Girls Mysteries, the Delanie Fitzgerald Mysteries, the Jules Keene Glamping Mysteries and the Mermaid Bay Christmas Shoppe Mysteries. Her work includes stories featuring glamping-ground investigations, Christmas shop crimes and private-eye cases.

A longtime mystery fan who grew up watching “Scooby-Doo” and reading Nancy Drew, Weidner brings a varied professional background to her fiction. She has worked as a technical writer, editor, college professor, software tester and information technology manager. She also grew up as a “cop’s kid,” an experience that may have influenced her interest in mysteries.

Weidner earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Virginia Wesleyan University and a master’s degree in American literature from the University of Richmond.

The event is presented by Chesapeake Bay Writers, a chapter of the Virginia Writers Club, in partnership with the library. Admission is free; registration is available at chesapeakebaywriters.org.
