Busch Gardens Williamsburg Opens Up Coasters for Spring Break
Busch Gardens Williamsburg is beginning to open up its roller coasters just in time for spring break 2022. On Saturday, March 19, both Alpengeist and Tempesto will be available for visitors to enjoy. On March 25, the long-awaited Pantheon will be available for patrons to ride.
Survey Regarding Humelsine Parkway (Rt. 199) Improvements Deadline Extended
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced an extension to the deadline for a survey regarding potential improvements to Humelsine Parkway (Rt. 199) in Williamsburg. While VDOT originally intended for the survey to close on March 14, the Department announced on March 18 that it would stay open through March 26. To learn more about the survey, please click here. Flags Ordered to Half-Staff
On March 18, Gov. Glenn Youngkin ordered that both the United States and Virginia flags throughout the Commonwealth be flown at half-staff in respect and memory of Covington Police Officer Caleb Ogilvie, who was killed in the line of duty on March 14. The order goes into effect at sunrise on Saturday, March 19.
James City County’s Treasurer’s Office Closing Early
James City County’s Treasurer’s Office, located at 101 Mounts Bay Road, Building B in Williamsburg, announced that it will be closing at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23 for a staff meeting.
Youngkin Names Next Director for Dept. of Conservation and Recreation
Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s office announced that he named Matthew Wells as the next director of the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation. Wells comes to the position with a background in policy, politics, and advocacy to include his most recent position as senior regional manager of for state government relations with WestRock, noted as an international company that works in sustainable fiber-based packaging solutions.
State Board Names New Chancellor of Virginia’s Community Colleges
The State Board for Community Colleges announced on Friday, March 19 that it has named Russell A. Kavalhuna, J.D., as the new chancellor of the Commonwealth’s community colleges. Kavalhuna comes with a background as a former federal prosecutor and as an aviation workforce expert. He was chosen over 50 other candidates.
