All athletics-related activities at William & Mary have been cancelled until further notice in response to the developments regarding the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).
The announcement was made Thursday.
“The current focus of the Athletics Department is ensuring all our student-athletes are in safe and secure locations,” according to a statement released by the college. “Moving forward, it will base all decisions around the four main goals of the university: safeguarding the heath of students, staff and community; ensuring students complete their classes; maintaining the university’s basic operations; and joining in the national effort to slow the spread of COVID-19.”
The college late Wednesday also announced that all in-person classes are suspended with classes beginning again online or remotely on March 23. Courses that are already online will continue as scheduled. Students are encouraged to return home or stay home.
Additionally, W&M is canceling all university-sponsored travel and events.
