JAMES CITY COUNTY – James City County is asking residents to share their ideas for Grove Community Park as part of the community engagement process.
Plans for the nearly six-acre park, located along Pocahontas Trail in the Grove Community, include walking trails, picnic areas, a swimming pool and community spaces.
The park is the result of a collaboration between JCC Parks & Recreation and design-build team Whiting-Turner Contracting Company. In late spring 2026, JCC awarded Whiting-Turner a $470,555 contract for the park’s development.
The survey is part of the next phase of the project, which will include plans for community engagement events, design elements and construction timelines.
In an email Alister Perkinson, assistant director of James City County Parks & Recreation, said the county last gathered community feedback on the park in 2018.
“It is part of our mission to provide access to recreational amenities to all residents, and there is currently a lack of accessible outdoor spaces in this region of the County,” Perkinson said. “This survey will help reaffirm the park amenities that ar most important to residents and will inform the design of the park.”
According to a JCC news release, they have scheduled “(e)xpansive community input” opportunities through October that will be vital to helping shape the park. One way is by completing the survey by Aug. 31, which is available in Spanish and English. Residents can also contribute by visiting a JCC county facility between Aug. 14 and Sep. 13, and participating in community design conversations on Sep. 17 and Oct. 15 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m at James River Elementary.
Completion is expected in summer 2028.
