Newport News man killed following crash in York County

A 35-year-old Newport News man died after his car struck a tractor-trailer in York County Saturday morning.

The Virginia State Police identified the man as Errol D. Fraser.

State troopers were called to the scene of the crash in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 64 near mile marker 239 at 3:03 a.m.

A 2008 Lexus driven by Fraser was traveling “at a high rate of speed” when it struck a 2020 Freightliner tractor-trailer from behind, according to State Police.

The Lexus then became lodged under the back of the tractor-trailer.

Fraser died upon impact. State Police said it’s unknown at this time if alcohol was a contributing factor.

Fraser was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the incident, police said.
