WILLIAMSBURG — In life, there are some challenges you can walk away from. And then there are the ones that stick — the kind where the only way through is to jam.
This month, Williamsburg and James City County are collecting jars of peanut butter and jelly, 16 ounces or smaller, Sept. 1-30 at designated locations. It all started when Isle of Wight County issued a challenge, and both localities accepted.
“Hunger is an issue that knows no boundaries, and Williamsburg is committed to doing our part to support neighbors throughout Hampton Roads,” said Public Works and Utilities Director Jack Reed, who is leading Williamsburg’s effort.
The challenge, part of Hunger Action Month, spread to other Hampton Roads localities, including Portsmouth, Hampton, Newport News, Smithfield, Windsor, Norfolk, Suffolk, Chesapeake and Franklin. Donations will go to the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank to support local families and individuals facing food insecurity.
In Williamsburg, jars of peanut butter and jelly will be accepted at the Municipal Building, 401 Lafayette St.; the Williamsburg Library, 515 Scotland St.; Quarterpath Recreation Center, 202 Quarterpath Road; the Williamsburg Fire Station, 440 N. Boundary St.; and the Williamsburg Police Station, 615 Lafayette St.
In James City County, donations will be accepted at the Recreation Center, 5301 Longhill Road; the Social Services Building lobby, 5249 Olde Towne Road; the Government Center Building F lobby, 101 Mounts Bay Road; and the James City County Library, 7770 Croaker Road.
