A Williamsburg man has been arrested in connection with a bank robbery in Newport News.
Newport News Police identified the suspect as James Robert Crowder, 32.
Authorities said officers responded to the Old Point National Bank in the 13800 block of Warwick Boulevard on a report of a robbery Thursday at 1:09 p.m.
There, bank employees told police a man went inside the bank, “implied he had a firearm, and demanded money,” authorities said.
The suspect left after taking money. No injuries were reported.
A description of the man and a vehicle was provided and officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of Tabbs Lane and Warwick Boulevard.
One of the occupants in the car was Crowder.
“After further investigation, it was revealed that Mr. Crowder committed the robbery at the Old Point National Bank,” police said in a news release.
Police did not elaborate.
Crowder is charged with three counts of abduction and one count each of robbery and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
Police did not disclose how much money was taken, but noted all of the money was recovered.
