A complaint filed in connection with the arrest of a Williamsburg Police lieutenant contained very few details about the Wednesday night incident.
The complaint, filed in Williamsburg James City County Juvenile Domestic Relations Court, indicated a woman known to Lt. Richard Frederick Drab Jr., 50, told police he was drunk in the home and he was carrying a gun.
According to the complaint, Drab told the woman to call the police but she told him no. In response, Drab pointed the gun at the woman and said “Are you going to call the police now?”
Drab then went into another room. James City County Police wrote in the complaint Drab was going to get clothes to leave the home.
It was then that the woman told police of hearing a shot – she was concerned that Drab may have shot himself.
So police said she went into the room and saw Drab holding the rifle, and there was a spent shell casing on the ground near him.
“It’s all going to end tonight,” Drab allegedly told the woman.
During that time Drab had been on the phone with friends and coworkers, said Stephanie Williams, JCC Police spokeswoman.
The complaint indicated Drab made comments to one unidentified caller, saying he could “hear sirens and it’s time to dance.”
Officers arrived at his home and Drab was taken into custody at 7:10 p.m.
Now, here’s what Williamsburg Police said about the arrest
Williamsburg Police said Drab has been placed on administrative leave.
“I want to thank the James City County Police Department for their prompt and professional handling of this situation which fortunately led to a peaceful resolution,” Williamsburg Police Chief Sean Dunn said in a prepared statement.
Drab, a 20-year veteran of the department and patrol supervisor, is accused of shooting an AR-15 rifle inside a house on Noland Boulevard in James City County.
In a news release, James City County Police would only say it was a “domestic issue.”
Police responded to the home around 5:15 p.m., which developed into a barricade situation. Drab was taken into custody around 7:10 p.m., James City County Police said.
Officers took six firearms from the home, including both handguns and long guns.
The six firearms seized from the house did not include Drab’s department-issued firearm, which was at the police station in Williamsburg at the time of the incident on Noland Boulevard, Williamsburg Police spokesman Maj. Greg Riley said.
Drab has been placed on paid leave pending the outcome of the department’s internal investigation of the matter, Riley said.
Riley also said he’s “not aware of any previous disciplinary actions” within the department against Drab.

An official with the Williamsburg-James City County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court said Drab appeared in court Thursday morning for an arraignment and retained an attorney.
As of 1 p.m. Thursday, Drab was still in custody at the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail.
There will be a bond hearing Friday at 11 a.m. in the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.
According to published reports, Drab lead one of the Williamsburg Police Department’s active shooter trainings earlier this year.
