VIRGINIA BEACH — A grand jury will decide in May whether to indict a juvenile accused of stabbing a police officer in December 2017, according to the Virginia Beach Police Department.
The juvenile has been charged with attempted capital murder of law enforcement officer, malicious wounding of a law enforcement officer, robbery, use of a firearm, and conspiracy.
The charges stem from an incident Dec. 13, 2017. Officers were called at 2:47 a.m. to a home in the 4700 block of Victory Road on a report of a “domestic incident.”
When they arrived, police found a 17-year-old male outside the house. Officers tried to detain him, but the teen lashed out and stabbed an officer with a knife, according to the VBPD.
The injured officer was taken to the hospital.
Police said they believe the juvenile accused of stabbing the police officer was also involved in a robbery on Shore Drive that day.
The Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney said they cannot release the teen’s name “unless/until he has been indicted by the grand jury, as then he will stand trial as an adult.”
