VIRGINIA BEACH — An eight-year veteran of the Virginia Beach Police Department is recovering at home after being stabbed while trying to detain a juvenile.
Virginia Beach police were called to a home in the 4700 block of Victory Road for a domestic incident around 2:47 a.m. When they arrived, they found a 17-year-old male outside the house. When they tried to detain him, he lashed out and stabbed an officer with a knife, according to the VBPD.
The juvenile was charged with the attempted capital murder of a police officer.
The injured officer was helped by other department officials who were on the scene and the juvenile was arrested. The injured officer was taken to a local hospital and is now home.
About 10 minutes earlier, another officer was patrolling the 4800 block of Shore Drive when they were flagged down by a person who said they’d been assaulted and robbed by someone with a gun, police said.
The victim suffered minor injuries and was treated by city medics. They gave the police officer a description of the person who allegedly attacked them and pointed to the direction that he’d fled on foot, police said.
Other officers joined the search for the accused suspect, which led a K9 officer to arrest another 17-year-old male who matched the description provided by the victim in the 4700 block of Price Circle, according to police.
During the course of the investigation, officers determined that the juvenile accused of stabbing the police officer was also involved in the Shore Drive incident. Both are facing robbery and firearm charges; one of the teens was also charged with malicious assault.
Both 17-year-olds are being held at the Virginia Beach Juvenile Detention Center without bond.
