VIRGINIA BEACH — A 27-year-old man was rescued by Virginia Beach police with the opioid overdose-reversing drug Narcan after he overdosed in mid-April, court documents said.
On April 15, police found the man lying on the ground inside a home in the 1200 block of Hawk Avenue. He was unconscious, not breathing and turning blue, according to documents filed in Virginia Beach Circuit Court.
A police officer gave the man Narcan and he was taken to Sentara Princess Anne Hospital.
Narcan, a brand name for the prescription drug naloxone, is a substance administered to people overdosing on opioids. Narcan detaches the opioids from the brain receptors and buys more time for the person to be taken to a hospital for treatment.
