VIRGINIA BEACH — A 13-year-old Landstown Middle School student is facing felony charges after explosive devices were found in a locker on Friday.
School public relations coordinator Rosemary Gladden said that campus administration received a report about “suspicious materials” in the student’s locker on Thursday. The report was given to the school’s resource officer, who got the fire department involved.
The teenager was charged with two counts of manufacturing and possessing chemical explosive devices; however, Virginia Beach Fire Department officials say they do not believe the student intended to harm anyone, according to spokesman Art Kohn.
The student was arrested on Friday and held in the juvenile detention center over the weekend.
Gladden said that along with the felony charges, the student may also face “appropriate disciplinary action,” which could include expulsion.
