The Benjamin Harrison Memorial Bridge connecting Route 5 in Charles City County to Prince George County is closed through 7 a.m. Friday as crews work to repair the bridge.

Work is underway to replace the bridge’s auxiliary drive and to repair decks and beams on the 47-year-old bridge, according to a news release from the Virginia Department of Transportation.

The bridge will also be closed from 7 a.m. Aug. 18 to Aug. 22. Drivers can use Interstate 295 or the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry as alternate routes.

Work on the $5.6 million project to improve the bridge will continue into next year.

Real-time traffic information is available at VDOT’s website. Drivers can also download the free 511 mobile app.
