WILLIAMSBURG — Neighborhood associations and community groups in James City County can apply for matching grants of up to $500 to fund projects that improve shared spaces, promote sustainability and strengthen community connections.

The county’s Good Neighbor Grant program supports projects that have an environmental benefit and encourage neighborhood involvement. Applicants may use cash, donated materials or volunteer labor to meet the matching requirement.

Previous grant recipients have used the funding for a variety of community projects. The Ford’s Colony Green Team expanded a native habitat garden’s riparian buffer, while Williamsburg Landing created a pollinator meadow featuring a “pollinator palace” made from recycled materials.

Other funded projects have included a community memorial garden by Greater First Colony, a peace garden and educational walking trail project in Uncle’s Neck and erosion control improvements at The Point at Jamestown.

Projects are evaluated based on environmental benefits, neighborhood participation, long-term sustainability and feasibility, according to the grant application.

Applications are due by 4 p.m. Sept. 15. Grant award amounts are based on the number of applications received and available funding. Funded projects must be completed by April 30, 2027.

Applications may be submitted to[email protected] or delivered to 107 Tewning Road, Williamsburg, VA 23188.
