YORK COUNTY — The York County Board of Supervisors will meet Tuesday at 6 p.m. at York Hall, 301 Main St. in Yorktown. The board will recognize a longtime sheriff’s deputy, hear a parks and recreation update and act on several routine items. It will also hold two public hearings, including a zoning question over storage containers in residential yards.
Following presentations, the board will hold a public comment period, hear reports from the county attorney and county administrator, and take up remarks from board members before recessing ahead of the public hearings.
Presentations
- Service recognition: The board will present a service pin to Deputy Lt. Kristen Schomburg of the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office.
- Parks and Recreation Manager Ben Whitener will brief the board on department programs.
Routine items
- The board will approve minutes from its July 21 and Aug. 4 meetings.
- School funding: The board will move $2,355,500 from the county’s Revenue Stabilization Reserve Fund to the School Division’s Capital Improvement Fund and $425,000 to its Operating Fund. The money would go toward renovations and additions at Tabb High School, emergency repairs at Bruton High School and to offset a cut in Title I funding.
- The board will approve the county’s Comprehensive Parks and Recreation Master Plan.
- Head Start: The board will set up a structure to oversee York County’s Head Start program and appoint members to the Head Start Policy Council.
- The board will commend Haven Gardner as York County’s Employee of the Quarter for the fourth quarter of 2026.
- Veterans’ tax refunds: The board will authorize real estate tax refunds for 2023 through 2026 to eligible disabled veterans.
- Cisco support contract: The board will authorize a Cisco Smartnet support contract.
Public hearings
- Shipping containers as sheds: The board will take up, for a second time, a county-initiated proposal to change zoning rules so shipping and cargo containers can be used as storage sheds on residential properties. The change was put off at the board’s July 21 meeting.
- Towing lot on Production Drive: The board will consider a request from MDC Enterprises LLC for a permit to run a towing service and vehicle storage and impound lot on two parcels.
After the public hearings, the board will take up new business, enter closed session and address future business before adjourning.
