JAMES CITY COUNTY – A 93-year-old woman who was reported missing Sunday was found dead in a lake near her home, according to James City County Police.
Hedwig Mainous was found at about 2:58 p.m. near the 5000 block of Queen Bishop Lane.
Patrol officers, JCCPD’s Drone Team, Underwater Search and Recovery Team and James City County Fire and EMS recovered Mainous’ body. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Mainous’ family had reported her missing earlier in the day and said she was known to take walks around the neighborhood.
Investigators said Mainous’ death appears accidental and no foul play is suspected. The medical examiner’s office will determine the final cause of death.
