WILLIAMSBURG 一 Williamsburg opened its new police station to the public May 12 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, marking the department’s move into a 43,400-square-foot facility on Lafayette Street after nearly 50 years on Armistead Avenue.
The ceremony started with the raising of the flag before remarks were given by Mayor Douglas Pons, Chief Sean Dunn, and Citizen Advisory Committee Chair Malika Blume.
“Today is more than an unveiling of a building. Today represents a promise. A promise of safety, service, partnership and trust between this department and the community,” Blume said during the ceremony.
Afterwards, Williamsburg police officers and staff led tours of the station, which includes a community room, an evidence facility, fitness room, interview rooms, dedicated reporting rooms for victims and families and a secure vehicle entry for bringing suspects into the building.
“This is a huge challenge that our team faced with. But they built an amazing facility that is truly designed to meet [the departments’] needs,” Dunn said.
The facility was built by Henderson Inc. and architectural firm Moseley Architects comprised the design-build team for this project, which began in the spring of 2024. The project cost was estimated at $19.2 million.
