HISTORIC TRIANGLE — Wreaths Across America events took place nationwide on Saturday, Dec. 14, with several groups in the historic triangle participating.

Wreaths Across America’s mission is to educate the next generation, remember the fallen and honor those who serve. Each December, Wreaths Across America delivers wreaths to cemeteries across the United States to ensure each service member has a wreath on their grave during the holiday season.

The Williamsburg Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Chapter participated in the nationwide event for the third year.

The ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 14, included a short program that included a color guard, the National Anthem and speeches. DAR members, along with local families and Girl Scouts, placed over 500 wreaths with an American flag on veterans’ graves at Cedar Grove Cemetery.

During the wreath-laying ceremony, each veteran’s name was said prior to their wreath being laid.

“Remembering the Fallen … honoring those who serve … and teaching our children the value of Freedom” was the motto at Historic Grace Episcopal Church in Yorktown as it participated in the annual Wreaths Across America Program.
On Saturday, church parishioners and members of the community helped remember and honor veterans at its wreath-laying ceremony. Remembrance wreaths were placed for all U.S. military service members — Army, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard, Air Force, Merchant Marines, Space Force, and POWs and MIAs — as well as on the graves of 113 known veterans buried in the church cemetery.
The ceremony was coordinated by Kim Lenz and celebrated by Rev. Seldon Walker.
