W&M’s Marcus Barnes Invited to Tropical Bowl

(Tribe Athletics)

WILLIAMSBURG — After recently concluding a tremendous collegiate career at William & Mary, safety Marcus Barnes has accepted an invitation to play in the Tropical Bowl in Orlando, Fla., on Jan. 19, 2025.

A two-time All-CAA selection, Barnes tied for first in the conference and ranked seventh nationally in interceptions (4) this season. Additionally, he tied for third in the CAA with 11 passes defended while also totaling 69 tackles and two forced fumbles.

The Jeannette, Pa., native finished his career with 38 starts and ranks just outside W&M’s all-time top-10 lists in interceptions (9) and passes defended (33).

Barnes will become the third former Tribe standout to play in the Tropical Bowl, joining Connor Hilland (2018) and Caylin Newton (2022).

Since the all-star game’s inception in 2016, more than 350 participants have gone on to the NFL.

Barnes will look to join a group of five former Tribe standouts who are currently on NFL rosters – Nate Lynn (Lions), Bill Murray (Bears), Luke Rhodes (Colts), Colby Sorsdal (Lions) and Owen Wright (Ravens).
