JAMES CITY COUNTY — James City County (JCC) Board of Supervisors Chair Ruth Larson presented the 2024 Chairman’s Awards during the Dec. 10 Board of Supervisors meeting.
The Chairman’s Award for a County individual, department or program went to Renee Dallman, JCC’s Public Information Officer.
According to the county, Dallman has been with James City County since 1993 and currently serves as the public information officer. Her responsibilities include writing news releases, media relations, leading the county’s external affairs team during major events, hosting the podcast This Week in James City County and providing communications support to the Board of Supervisors and County departments.
Dallman launched the county’s social media presence in June 2008 and has led a team to grow the James City County Facebook audience to more than 14,000 followers, it noted.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dallman created a series of daily Good Morning, JCC! posts on Facebook that provided a humorous message or words of encouragement for citizens during a time of uncertainty, it added.
The Citizen’s Award went to Janet V. Green, CEO of Habitat for the Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg.
Green has worked for Habitat for the Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg (Habitat) for 22 years. The county noted she has consistently innovated the way the organization has provided housing to worthy families, including partnerships with the Peninsula Home Builders Association and volunteers from VISTA and AmeriCorps.
In 2018, Green represented Habitat on the county’s Workforce Housing Task Force, where she introduced the idea of a Neighborhood Blitz, the county added. The first Blitz was held in the Forest Glen subdivision in 2019, when 16 families were assisted, and again in 2023 in the James Terrace neighborhood, where eight families were assisted.
The county said because of her leadership, 60 of 174 homes Habitat has built on the Peninsula are in James City County, including the world’s first owner-occupied 3D printed house.
The award recipients were honored for their contributions and service to James City County and the community.
