HISTORIC TRIANGLE — There are a number of events scheduled throughout the Historic Triangle this Memorial Day to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities and country.

Williamsburg Memorial Park’s 60th Anniversary Memorial Day Celebration

On Monday, May 27 at 10 a.m., Williamsburg Memorial Park will host its 60th Anniversary Memorial Day Celebration to honor the men and women who gave their lives to protect the nation and its citizens.

Those heroes served as members of the armed forces, police officers, firefighters, paramedics, and first responders.

This event will feature an honor guard, patriotic music, a ceremonial wreath-laying, special guest speakers, and more.

This is a free community event but seating is limited. Due to limited parking, all personal vehicles, except those with disabled tags, stickers, or placards, must park off-site at Bowlero Williamsburg, located at 5544 Olde Towne Road. A complimentary shuttle will run from 9 a.m. to noon to ensure everyone makes it to and from the celebration as quickly and safely as possible.

Members of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 824, will serve as the Color Guard. Wreath laying will be conducted by the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 13, the Comte de Grasse Chapter — Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Moore House Society — Children of the American Revolution.

Military service flags will be presented by the York High School NJROTC, with the National Anthem sung by U.S. Air Force Senior Master Sgt. Terry Taylor. The ceremony includes the playing of “Taps.”

All attendees will participate in a hand salute, as appropriate for active duty military/veterans, or with reverence, to the 112 known veterans buried in the Grace Episcopal Church Cemetery, and all deceased men and women who have served the country in uniform.

The historic Church Bell (circa 1725) will be tolled 21 times.

Following the ceremony, families, friends and visitors may visit the graves. Ceremony committee members will replace flags on all graves the weekend before the event.
