JAMES CITY — Greater Williamsburg’s newest supermarket is trying to fill its ranks.

Publix is hosting a job fair for its new store Friday and Saturday, according to a James City County press release.

Publix is expected to open in the Monticello Marketplace this fall, although a grand opening date has not yet been announced.

The job fair runs from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the DoubleTree by Hilton at 50 Kingsmill Road.

“As the largest employee owned company in the nation, we are excited to expand our Publix family with friendly associates passionate about providing premier service,” Publix Media and Community Relations Manager Kim Reynolds said.

The Williamsburg Publix will employ about 140 people, Reynolds said, with more than 100 of those jobs going to local hires. She added that Publix remains on track for a fourth quarter opening.

Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments can be scheduled online. Those who can’t make it to the job fair can also apply for jobs online.

Publix operates more than 1,000 stores across the Southeast. The company has been named as one of Fortune’s “100 Best Companies to Work for” for nearly two decades, according to the release.
