Summer is about hot sand and cool drinks, and a new brewpub is planning to combine the two on the Yorktown waterfront.

The Original Larry’s Hard Lemonade will be opening on Water Street April 6, according to manager Jeffrey Noble.

Larry’s first opened its brewery in Hampton in 2016, where it produces alcoholic lemonade in partnership with St. George’s Brewing. The business’s new spot in Yorktown will be its second location and its first brewpub.

The brewpub was previously occupied by the Beach Delly, next to the Duke of York Hotel and overlooking Yorktown Beach. Renovation work inside the building is still ongoing.

The Yorktown Larry’s will continue to sell the pink and yellow hard lemonades that it will brew on site, and may even include local guest brews on tap, Noble said.

Noble also said Larry’s will debut a new drink that is perfect for hot summer months: a craft beer slushy.

“Picture an alcoholic pink lemonade Slurpee,” Noble said. “Nothing’s better than a cold beer, but that’s only because you haven’t had an opportunity for a grown-up slushy yet.”

Noble said Larry’s has been working on the concept for about three months. He has purchased a slushy machine, and has been tweaking the chemistry of the beer they’ll be pouring into the machine so the slushy will taste like craft adult lemonade.

Like the lemonades, slushies will also come in both pink and yellow.

The brewpub will also sell food that will cater to the beach-going families during the summer, head chef Jai Brown said. The menu will offer freshly-made hot dogs, pizza, hamburgers, corn dogs, salads, sandwiches and chili, with the idea being that parents can carry the food across the street to their families on the beach.

“With the beach being across the way, the thing we want to do is cater to the families,” Howard said. “We don’t want to remove the kids from the fun.”

Noble said he envisions the Yorktown Beach – and the view of the York River and George P. Coleman Memorial Bridge – will be among the many main draws to Larry’s Hard Lemonade.

“Where else can you have a delicious meal, a frosty beer slushy and a view like this?” Noble said. “Nowhere on Earth.”
