Be aware this holiday season motorists. Drivers planning to be out on Interstate 64 and some nearby streets will likely experience nightly delays during the first week of December due to the I-64 widening project.
Crews contracted by the Virginia Department of Transportation will close a series of interstate on-ramps and off-ramps on I-64 at Route 199 and Lee Hall Boulevard. Single-lane closures will also be in effect as far north as Camp Peary on the interstate.
A full list of scheduled closures is below.
Lane closures:
- Alternating single-lane closures on I-64 east and west Dec. 2-7, as early as 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., starting near the Colonial Parkway to Lee Hall (Exit 247)
- Single lane closures on I-64 west at Camp Peary (Exit 238) on Dec. 3-5, from as early as 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- Lane closures under flagger control on Penniman Road at the I-64 overpasses on Dec. 3-7, from as early as 8 p.m. until 6 a.m.
- Single lane closures of the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel eastbound at the Hampton River Bridge on Dec. 3-7 from as early as 9 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Road closures:
- A full closure of Rt. 60 (Pocahontas Trail) at Skiffes Boulevard with stoppages managed by flaggers on Dec. 4-8, from as early as 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Ramp closures:
- I-64 west off-ramp to Route 143 (exit 243B) on Dec. 3-7, from as early as 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- I-64 east off-ramp to Busch Gardens (exit 243A) on Dec. 3-7, from as early as 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- I-64 east on- and off-ramps to Route 199 west (exit 242A) on Dec. 3-7, from as early as 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- I-64 west on-ramps to Route 199 east on Dec. 3-7, from as early as 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- Signs will be in place to alert motorists to the ramp closures and detours.
