Williamsburg locals will experience the swing and swagger of jazz this holiday season with one local band’s shows at the Kimball Theatre.
Good Shot Judy — Williamsburg’s own “Little Big Band” — will perform three Christmas shows at the Kimball Theatre this December, according to Jeff Cahoon, Good Shot Judy’s bassist.
Following successful performances at the Kimball in recent years, the band has expanded their Christmas shows to include two at the Williamsburg Library Theatre, according to Cahoon.
The concert will pay tribute to popular Christmas performers like Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles Bing Crosby and others, according to Cahoon.
The Williamsburg-based jazz band was formed in 2013 by Brett and Jeff Cahoon with the idea that Jazz wasn’t simply for background music, according to a biography from the band.
In the beginning, Good Shot Judy had three members who came together by trying to spread their love for jazz. Now, the band has grown to include 14 members, which includes six horns, four rhythm players and female vocalists, according to Cahoon.
As the band’s popularity grew, their fan base spread to other musicians and enthusiasts throughout Hampton Roads. Their shows are entertaining and energetic, and they have about 160 public and performances under their belt, according to the biography.
The first Christmas show of the season will take place on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Kimball Theatre on Duke of Gloucester street, according to the band’s website.
The Kimball Theatre will also host two more shows at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Dec. 9.
The following Saturday, the concert will move to the Williamsburg Library for a performance at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 16.
The final holiday concert will be held on Dec. 20 at 7:30 p.m. at the library, according to the website.
Tickets to the concerts at the Kimball Theatre are $24 and can be bought on the theater’s website. The library has not yet posted information about the performances.
