A Virginia Beach woman is accused of assaulting and injuring an 11-year-old girl with an aluminum baseball bat, according to court documents.

Andrea Gehring, 36, of the 1000 block of Olds Lane, was charged with child abuse and malicious wounding on Nov. 30, 2016 in connection to an incident that happened in a Virginia Beach home four days prior.

Police say Gehring assaulted the girl after the child told Gehring’s boyfriend that the woman was out with friends, including another man. Gehring’s boyfriend became angry, calling and texting her multiple times throughout the night, according to a search warrant filed in Virginia Beach Circuit Court.

When Gehring got back to the house, she demanded to know what the child told her boyfriend. She then assaulted the girl with the bat, injuring her with marks, bruises and broken bones, according to court documents.

When questioned by police, Gehring said the girl got hurt when she fell and tripped onto a toy doll castle, court documents state.

Gehring’s case is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Feb. 14 in Virginia Beach Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.
