Tuesday last day to apply for Hurricane Matthew FEMA assistance

Virginia Beach’s disaster recovery center is closing permanently at 6 p.m. on Tuesday — the last day that survivors can register for FEMA assistance or file a physical disaster loan application with the Small Business Administration.

As of Dec. 23, more than 5,080 Virginians registered with FEMA and more than $8.6 million has been approved. Additionally, the SBA approved more than $11.9 million in loans and the National Flood Insurance Program has paid more than $41 million.

Survivors may apply by phone at 800-621-3362 or online at DisasterAssistance.gov. The toll-free lines are open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
