Colleen Barnette Lowder, 89, passed away on Friday, Dec. 30, 2016.
A native of Kannapolis, N.C., she was the daughter of the late William Alexander Barnette and Winnie Kerley Barnette. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford A. Lowder Jr.
Colleen attended Tidewater Community College and retired from Virginia Beach City Public Schools after 24 years at School Plant Services. She was a former, 30-year member of London Bridge Baptist Church and an active member of Great Neck Baptist Church. She was a member of Virginia Association of Educational Office Professionals, served five years on Board of Directors for Virginia Beach Schools Federal Credit Union, served two years as president of the Ladies Auxiliary for the London Bridge Volunteer Fire Department and treasurer for Pinewood Gardens and Eureka Park Civil Leagues.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Cary Clifford Lowder; daughters, Cathy Rose, and her husband, Gregory, and Carol Gay, and her husband, William; grandchildren, William Gay Jr., and Elizabeth DeMatos, and her husband, Nicholas; and great-grandson, Oliver DeMatos.
The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 6, 2017, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel. A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Todd Holt officiating. Interment will follow in Colonial Grove Memorial Park.
