NORFOLK – Kayak rentals will begin this month at the Half Moone center at Nauticus.
The rentals will allow visitors and residents to explore the downtown waterfront through an “urban kayaking experience,” similar to offerings in San Francisco, Chicago, Washington and Pittsburgh, Nauticus said in a release.
Wild River Outfitters of Virginia Beach will operate the service from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Sunday, beginning July 14. The hourly rates will be $20 for a single kayak $30 for a double.
“What could be more dramatic than staring up at a 900-foot-long battleship from a kayak?” said Stephen E. Kirkland, Nauticus executive director. “With the residential expansion happening downtown, we wanted to give locals and visitors another chance to see this community from the water.”
Nauticus also operates a sailing program with an adult member program.
