NORFOLK— A local standout is one step closer to the major leagues.
Trey Gibson, a Yorktown native and graduate of Grafton High School, has earned a spot on the Norfolk Tides break camp roster, placing him on the Triple-A club’s Opening Day team as the season begins.
Born in Newport News, Gibson’s selection marks another milestone in a rapidly rising career. The right-handed pitcher is currently ranked the No. 3 prospect in the Baltimore Orioles organization and was named the organization’s Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2025.
The break camp roster represents the group of players who have advanced through spring training and will open the season at the Triple-A level—the final step before the majors. For Gibson, it’s both validation of his development and continued momentum after a standout 2025 season.
With Norfolk set to open its season on March 27, Gibson will begin the year just one call away from Baltimore, positioning him as a strong candidate for a call-up to the Major League Baseball this season.
For the Yorktown and Newport News communities, Gibson’s rise offers a hometown connection to the Orioles’ future—and a player to watch closely as the season unfolds.
