
YORKTOWN— At approximately 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, personnel from the York County Fire Department (YCFD) were dispatched to a reported residential structure fire in the 1700 block of Old York Hampton Highway in the Yorktown area.
YCFD said when they arrived that personnel encountered significant fire conditions with flames visible from the structure. Firefighters quickly deployed hose lines and conducted an interior and exterior attack.
The fire was under control within 30 minutes, according to YCFD. Personnel remained on scene to conduct overhaul operations, extinguishing hotspots and ensuring the fire did not reignite. The fire was marked as fully extinguished at 2 a.m.
Representatives from Dominion Energy and Virginia Natural Gas also responded to the scene to secure electrical and gas services.
All occupants were able to safely evacuate the residence prior to the arrival of YCFD personnel. The fire displaced the residents of the home, who are reportedly staying with relatives.
YCFD says that the cause of the fire is under investigation. There were no reports of injuries. An adjacent home sustained minor heat damage.
Traffic control was provided by the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office and VDOT.
Fire station backfill support was provided by the Langley AFB Fire Department.
The YCFD reminds residents to ensure working smoke alarms are installed on every level of their home and to have a home escape plan.
