Boys Tennis Roundup: Jamestown Remains Perfect in Bay Rivers Play

Grayson DeBerryJamestown earned its second consecutive sweep on Wednesday, taking down Poquoson 9-0 on the road.

The Eagles got a test at No. 1 singles, as Grayson DeBerry defeated Poquoson’s Sam Washburgh 6-4, 7-5.

The rest of Jamestown’s singles matches were less suspenseful as the Eagles dropped 10 games in the remaining five matches.

Doubles play was a clean sweep for Jamestown, which won all three matches to secure the perfect win over the Islanders.

Jamestown (3-2) will host Lafayette on Thurday hoping to remain unbeaten in Bay Rivers District play.

York Cruises Past Warhill

York continued its perfect season on Wednesday, defeating Warhill 9-0 at home.

The Falcons exerted their dominance over the Lions, dropping just six games in singles play and five games in doubles play.

York (2-0) faces a quick turnaround as the Falcons will host Poquoson on Thursday. Meanwhile, Warhill (2-3) also faces a quick rebound at home against Smithfield on Thursday.

Lafayette Holds Serve Against Smithfield

Lafayette was able to earn its second shutout victory of the season on Wednesday, beating Smithfield 9-0 at home.

The toughest matches of the day for Lafayette came at No. 4 singles and No. 2 doubles.

At No. 4 singles, Jacob Eck needed three sets to top Smithfield’s Josh Lewis. In doubles, Griffin Schobel and Eck defeated Smtihfield’s duo of Lewis and Liam Barlow 10-5 in a tiebreaker to claim the 9-8 victory.

Lafayette (3-0) will face its toughest test of the season Thursday when the Rams visit Jamestown.

Grafton Blanks Bruton

Grafton won its third consecutive match of the season on Wednesday, defeating Bruton 9-0 on the road.

The win marks the second time this season Grafton has swept an opponent.

Grafton (3-1) will visit Heritage on Monday, while Bruton (2-2) will host New Kent on Thursday.

Individual results were not reported for this match.
