NEW KENT — Sixty-four dachshunds will take over the Colonial Downs dirt track Saturday, Aug. 15, for the track’s third annual Wiener Dog Races, followed by Princess and Tractors Day on Sunday, Aug. 16.
Saturday’s races begin at 12:30 p.m. Registration has closed, and only dogs entered in the races will be allowed on the premises. Scheduled entertainment for the day also includes a petting zoo and a face painter.
“Saturday’s Wiener Dogs are always a thrill for fans and tiny competitors alike,” said Bella Hodge, Colonial Downs racing marketing manager.
Sunday’s Princess and Tractors Day begins at 12:30 p.m. and will include princess and character photos and meet-and-greets, heavy equipment on display from Sunbelt Rentals, and the track’s weekly hobby horse race for children.
Both days will include at least eight live thoroughbred races, with free general admission.
Indoor, covered and reserved seating is available for purchase for Saturday, Sunday and remaining race days.
Live thoroughbred racing continues Thursdays through Sundays through the Old Dominion Derby on Labor Day, Sept. 7.
